The benefits of the different types of cloud deployment

Public cloud

Public cloud provides infrastructure and service, through a third party organization and is shared among the multiple organizations via the internet. They usually provide high scalability due to the large storage to store massive amounts of digital data. They provide the three main categories of cloud computing services namely software as a service (Saas), platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Public Cloud is usually found used in less-sensitive software development and collaborative projects.

Private cloud

Private cloud provides the infrastructure and service, through by themselves or a third party organization and is solely operated for an organization. Its IT infrastructure is being kept by the organization behind a thick firewall. It is commonly used by organizations that prefer tight administration for business. Only authorized personnel can access, manage and use the digital data in the private cloud from anywhere while those who are not authorized could not.

Hybrid cloud

Hybrid cloud provides the infrastructure and service with the mix of the public and private cloud. It is designed to fuse the two platforms seamlessly with smooth workings of one to another. It is the perfect solution for those organizations who are looking for the functionality of both the private and public cloud.

Community cloud

Community cloud is not commonly used when compared to the other three models as it is the collaboration between other organizations on a multi-tenant platform using the same applications. This only occurs where the organizations of one another in a community share the same concerns.

Benefits of Public Cloud

  • Lower equipment purchase costs

Only part of the data center equipment needs to be purchased hence the lower capital expenditure.

  • Lower equipment maintenance costs

The public cloud service is maintained by the cloud service provider hence most of the costs are exempted.

  • Highly scalable

Due to Public Cloud being highly scalable, the cloud resources can be upgraded as long as the cost is paid.

Benefits of Private Cloud

  • Better security

As the private cloud  being kept behind a firewall deployed by the organization thus can only be accessed by the said organization. This makes it suitable to store sensitive data.

  • Better control and customization

As the private cloud is being accessed by the organization that owns it it can be changed according to the organization’s preference.

  • Flexible

The private cloud enables the organization to move its data to wherever and whenever the user chooses to do so without the risk of disrupting the workflow of the company.

Benefits of Hybrid cloud

  • Have the benefits of both Public Cloud and Private Cloud

Benefits of Community Cloud

  • Scalability

Scalable in the aspects in hardware resource, services which increases base on user-base

  • Secure

Allow the configuration of various levels to secure their data such as the ability to remove users from editing or downloading certain dataset, being able to subject certain dataset to strict regulations, etc.

  • Lower costs for the it department

Being collaborating in the system, applications and data in the cloud equates to not having to manage everything in it by a single IT department in multiple organizations, thus there will be less need to hire more personnel to manage it.
