The types of web hosting

How does web hosting work?

Web hosting is part of the essentials to get your website online. It is where your website resides at, essentially a place where data is stored.  Meanwhile, the data of the website needs a channel to go through to go live, that's where a web hosting provider comes into play. They come with multiple options from free to nearly hundreds or so per month. There are a number of different kinds of services provided which fall under the category of "web hosting".

Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is the cheapest amongst the other hosting options with the bonus of being the first and easiest type of hosting for new and small sites with small amount of traffic. With shared hosting the website are to be shared amongst the hundred or even thousands of the many sites within the same type of hosting provided by the same hosting company. THis is the main contribution to the low prices in the hosting plan the host provided.

While there are also a few negatives for shared hosting. As the websites are using the space shared amongst the other there may be neighbouring websites on the same plan as yours affecting you site with viruses and malware due to the shared resources of the server. In addition, if one site has encountered a surge in high traffic it will tie down a large portion of the server, affecting its neighbouring sites.

Virtual private Server Hosting

Shared hosting has a problem where there is a stacking of other sites created with different kinds of programming languages, as such it carries the risk that if one of the building blocks in the dominos falls the others follow suit. However virtual private server solve this to a certain extent by offering users a space with fewer sites. This means users have more room for resources with fewer competition  But this kind of hosting ultimately provides the space and flexibility thus able to handle high traffic on the site

Dedicated server hosting is a top tier kind of hosting when a client needs to operate a long running site that has high traffic due to it providing an entire server for a client’s exclusive use of a single or interconnected site. Its hosting package contains the supply of space, security, power and maintenance for the server's hardware itself done by the web host according to the client's wishes. This type of hosting eliminates any competition for the resource of any other user but in turn the costs are expensive compared to other server hosting services.
